THE DESTINATION

Esqape Dunara is a pet friendly heritage homestay near Jodhpur, in village Dhundhara, about
45 mins – 1hr drive from the city.

 

Dhundhara or Dunara is a small village nestled in the rustic & dry landscape of Rajasthan, with
desert wildlife, farms and scruby/thorny forests.

 

With its old world charm and slow pace of life, it is the perfect weekend getaway near Jodhpur.

At Esqape Dunara, you can book the entire haveli to yourself or a room or 2 and experience life

in an authentic Rajasthani village.

 

You can enjoy a private escape in the 1 acre estate, connect with the local community by way of
our village walks or head for a wildlife safari and explore the desert.

 

From the royal hosts, to staff, to villagers, expect to meet the kindest, most hospitable people in
Dunara, true to the legendary hospitality of Rajasthan.

THE HAVELI

A 1 acre private estate, the fortress is located in the heart of a rustic Rajasthani village, which
provides a rare countryside experience.

 

The property has 3 buildings.

 

The Bedrooms & gardens: There are 4 spacious guest bedrooms with 1 large double bed,
seating area, in-room amenities, attached bathrooms, dresser & Smart TV & airconditioning.
Bedrooms are connected by a large common verandah overlooking a sprawling garden.

 

The Pool & Deck: Next to the gardens, is the complex with the swimming pool, a large deck
and the kitchen. This building also has a secret underground dungeon, which makes for the
perfect spot for a private dining experience. Some parts of this building are under completion.

 

The Entrance Fortress: This part houses the owner’s private residence, the beautiful entrance
fortress and gates, some common space and staff rooms. It also has an 18th century granary
and jail house.

 

Note: If you want the property privately then book all 4 rooms. You are welcome to book 1-2
rooms also, but in such case the remaining rooms will be available to other guests.

THE CUISINE

Our homestyle kitchen serves delicious and wholesome North Indian and traditional Rajasthani

cuisine with limited Chinese and Italian options.

 

Request the chef to prepare your personal favorites or let them surprise you With some local

delicacies, the kitchen is at your service.

 

Soak in the pool to beat the heat or sit next to a warm bonfire with your friends & family,

while savoring delicious home cooked style delicacies.

THE HOSTS

The host, Thakur Ajai Singh’s family has a legacy dating back to 1835 when Thakur Bhabhoot

Singh, the jagirdar of Pokaran was granted the fief of Dhundhara by the Maharaja of Jodhpur.

 

After his ascension, he restored the grand entrance gate to where it stands today.

 

Six generations down the line, the Rajput family of Dunara has opened its doors for you.

 

The Haveli has history dating back to 1669 when its temples and residential buildings were

ransacked by Aurangzeb during his war with Maharaja of Jodhpur. You can see some of these

centuries old remains beautifully curated at the haveli.

 

If you spend some time with the hosts, they will graciously share some of these stories, which

makes for an evening of great conversation, food and drinks.

THINGS TO KNOW BEFORE YOU BOOK

Meals:

  1. All meals are included i.e. breakfast, lunch, and dinner.
  2. Drinks, tea, coffee and barbeques can be ordered separately at charge.
  3. The kitchen is NOT available for guest use.
  4. Please let the staff know about your food preferences or allergies if any.
  5. Bill for F&B needs to be paid the night before check-out.

Wifi and Mobile networks:

  1. We have a dedicated wi-fi connection, good enough for WFM and video calls.
  2. All mobile networks work well.

Parking & Access:

  1. There is ample parking available inside the haveli complex.

House Rules:

  1. Check in: 14:00
    Check out: 10:00
    Please respect the Check-in and Check-out time. We need 4 hours to reset the property. Early check-in and late check-out are subject to charge.
  2. No Noise: You are welcome to enjoy your time at the haveli, but we do not allow loud music or unruly behavior of any kind.
  3. Staff will be available from 08:00-22:00.
  4. Pet friendly: Pets are welcome and let us know beforehand if you are bringing a pet. You are expected to clean up after your pets. Any damages caused will be chargeable. Please bring their beds and food bowls. Food can be provided at charge.
  5. The rooms are strictly non-smoking. You may smoke outside. Smoking inside will attract heavy fines.
  6. Water & hot water: Please do not waste water, it is a very limited resource here.
  7. Break it-Buy it: You are liable to pay for any damages caused to the property during your stay.

Accommodation:

  1. Book the haveli or just a room: You can book the entire estate privately, if you are a group of 8-10 pax or book anyone of the rooms. If you book 1-2 rooms then the other rooms will be open for other guests and the haveli will not be available privately.
  2. No of Guests: We can accommodate up to 10 guests. 8 pax on 4 large double beds in 4 rooms and 2 on extra beds/room.
  3. We have a Smart TV with Netflix, Amazon Prime & TataSky.
  4. Not a Hotel: It is our best effort to give you the highest level of service, but you are booking a heritage homestay in a secluded location, about 1 hours away from any big towns. Repairs and other services can sometimes take many days to reach. Please remember this before booking.

Getting There:

We are located about 45mins-1hr driving from the blue city of Jodhpur.

  1. Rail: Nearest Railway station is Jodhpur and from there it is a 45min-1 hour drive.
  2. Air: Closest airport is Jodhpur and from there it is a 45min-1 hour drive.
  3. Car: We are about 50kms from Jodhpur, 370kms from Jaipur, 240 kms from Udaipur, 300kms from Bikaner, 310kms from Jaisalmer and 640kms from Delhi.

Taxis are easily available at the airport/railway station and we can also arrange for a pickup-drop service.
The drive itself is very comfortable and scenic with panoramic views of the desert enroute.

EXPERIENCES

Guided Village & Bazaar Walk: The guided walking tour in the village bazaar is like walking
back in time.
From small shops selling local handicrafts, to roadside flower sellers, to the local ‘chai ki tapri’
selling sweet kulhad tea. All these visuals, aromas and treats and much more can be
experienced during the village & bazaar walk.
Rs 500/pax. Duration: 1 hour

 

Wildlife Jeep Safari: Hop on to an open jeep to explore the desert around the village and spot
wildlife with your guide and driver. You can be sure to spot black bucks, blue bulls and chinkara
deer and if you get really lucky you can even spot wild hare, jackals and foxes.
The desert is also blessed with abundance of birdlife ranging from migratory birds in the winters
to some beautiful local residents too.
End the adventurous safari with a High Tea Picnic in the wilderness.

Meet the Artisans: Ride the jeep into the adventurous rural countryside and interact with the
local artisans. Watch a famed local weaver and a carpenter, as they create magic and take
home handicrafts as souvenirs.
Stop over at an original thatched mud rural dwelling and enjoy a cup of tea with the family living in it.
